SUMMARY:Launch of The Silicon Valley Poll
DESCRIPTION:The Silicon Valley Poll\, an annual public opinion survey carried out by our research arm in partnership with the Mercury News and Bay Area News Group. The results will be released every October. \n\n\n\nYou are warmly invited to attend the inaugural briefing\, which will take place over Zoom on Tuesday\, October 12\, at 9:00 am. There is no charge to participate\, and we ask that you pre-register. \n\n\n\nThe briefing will feature detailed analysis about the results\, of course\, but we’ll also probe more profound questions about the tenor of our times and look for broader meaning. I’m pleased that I’ll be joined in this by some of the Mercury’s most insightful journalists\, and we’ll do our best also to entertain audience questions. \n\n\n\nThe one-hour program will also be punctuated by smattering our region’s art\, music\, and poetry. \n\n\n\nWe wish we were meeting in person\, but we’ll look forward to that in coming years. We hope you’ll still see this online event as a meaningful place to learn and to be building community. \n\n\n\nLaunch of The Silicon Valley Poll

SUMMARY:DeepHack: Health and Safety Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Potential solution domains include fall monitoring\, pedestrian/bicyclist safety\, monitoring physical distance and mask-wearing\, physical worker safety\, fitness\, and posture tracking – and other health and safety problems that can be addressed by utilizing Edge AI for IoT \n\n\n\nDATE \n\n\n\n24-26 September\, 2021 \n\n\n\nAPPLICATION DEADLINE 8 September 2021 \n\n\n\nREGISTER NOW! \n\n\n\nA series of three Transatlantic AI Hackathons organized by EIT Digital and the German American Business Association (GABA)\, will bring together creative minds and thought leaders from both sides of the Atlantic. \n\n\n\nThe objective of the Transatlantic AI Hackathon Series is the cross-development of AI-based solutions\, addressing specific business\, societal\, environmental\, and economic challenges. \n\n\n\nThe first series is on “Health and Safety Monitoring DeepHack”\, and will deep dive into Edge AI’s exceptional potential towards the development of improved and more robust health and safety monitoring solutions\, and offerings. Edge AI\, the technique of processing AI algorithms on a hardware device locally\, has several advantages: increased levels of automation and flexibility\, faster performance with stronger data protection and privacy\, and real-time data and decision making. Edge AI helps in analyzing local situations swiftly and provides a fast response\, with no connection to the internet needed\, which is of immeasurable value in the Health and Safety Monitoring use case. \n\n\n\nYour challenge for this DeepHack is to develop Edge AI-powered sensors and computer vision solutions to aid individuals or groups of people to stay safe and healthy. \n\n\n\nPotential solution domains include fall monitoring\, pedestrian/bicyclist safety\, monitoring physical distance and mask-wearing\, physical worker safety\, fitness\, and posture tracking – and other health and safety problems that can be addressed by utilizing Edge AI for IoT. \n\n\n\nThis initiative is organized by EIT Digital and the German American Business Association (GABA) and supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany\, funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi).

SUMMARY:Automotive LIDAR 2021
DESCRIPTION:4th Annual Conference and Exhibition \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLIDAR has been in use for over 60 years in the military\, aerospace\, robotics\, and meteorological fields. Today it is experiencing a flurry of interest due to the expectation that it will be one of the key sensors to enable autonomous driving. More than $2.1 billion is raised to date\, and more than 85 companies are developing automotive-grade LIDAR sensors using their unique approaches. This conference is the only event in the world exclusively focused on automotive LIDAR technologies and applications. The conference’s sessions will describe the various approaches to make a LIDAR system and explain via physics and math the reasons to choose one approach over another. We will also discuss the publicly disclosed methods from each known developer\, their strengths and weaknesses\, and how likely they are to scale in manufacturability and cost. The conference will also provide overviews of marketplace projections and business trends. The material presented will enable attendees to make well-informed decisions regarding which LIDAR approaches are optimal for solving their challenges and requirements. \n\n\n\nConference Topics\n\n\n\nExpert reviews and analyses of state-of-the-art LIDAR technologiesBusiness trends\, market projections\, M&A developments\, and startup activityLIDAR data fusion with other types of sensors such as radar and cameraImpacts of enabling technologies such as artificial intelligenceNotable academic research related to LIDAR for automotive applicationsLIDAR data processing techniques and algorithmsSupply chain trends and challenges\, government regulations\, and mandatesFabrication\, packaging\, and system assembly techniquesReliability testing methodologies and techniquesTechnology transfer\, ecosystems and research hubs\, company formation

SUMMARY:GETTING AROUND SMART CITIES
DESCRIPTION:By 2030\, the world is projected to have 43 megacities with more than 10 million inhabitants. In general\, global populations are urbanizing\, but congestion and pollution have shown us that 20th Century solutions for moving people and goods around cities simply won’t work anymore. Historically\, as cities grew\, the solution to mobility was seen as more cars and more roads. But we know now that this strategy eventually hits a literal bottleneck as cities grow\, and countless hours are wasted in traffic. \n\n\n\nThe 21st Century city needs 21st Century mobility solutions\, and we now have the opportunity to invent them\, since the modern Smart City offers a wealth of data\, systems\, AI\, and connectivity which have never been available before. We are on the verge of a new era\, where innovators will take the capabilities of the Smart City\, and leverage them to improve mobility by: \n\n\n\nintegrating transport\, mobility\, and logistic systemsfacilitating multi-modal fast commutesreducing CO2 emissions and pollutantsempowering e-business and e-commerceintegrating with Software-Defined cellular networksmanaging the use resources: energy\, real estate\, and otherminimizing energy consumption and control pollution.\n\n\n\nJoin Autotech Council members for a morning of debate and discovery\, product demos\, startup pitches\, and great networking as we get a sense of the innovations and opportunities that will advance the world’s Smart Cities.
