DESCRIPTION:Everything You Always Wanted to Know About 6G \n (But Were Afraid to Ask) \n \n \n \n \n \n Thursday\, February 16\, 2023 \n Location: Zoom and LinkedIn Virtual Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About this event:\n \n \n The first phase of 5G deployments is almost complete in many leading markets\, and the global expansion is continuing. The standardization process of the next phase of 5G\, called 5G Advanced\, is picking up pace. Amidst all this\, 6G discussions are starting up.\n \n As happens during the conceptualization stage of any new generation of technology\, the focus is now on creating the “6G wish list” based on the feedback of different parts of the ecosystem.\n \n The discussion is around what should be the defining vectors of 6G\, whether it will be similar to the previous generation\, like performance and capabilities\, or will they be more societal benefits such as addressing the digital divide and universal connectivity.\n \n The panel will debate whether 6G requires a new radio interface\, what new spectrum bands such as TeraHertz (THz) will be enabled\, role of satellite connectivity\, sensing networks\, open architectures and more. Of course\, what new use cases\, applications and services will be always an interesting question. \n \n Join us to hear from our panel of experts about all the challenges\, opportunities\, and prospects of 6G \n Format: Round Table Discussion \n\n Agenda and Flow:\n\n09:00 AM – 09:10 AM PT: Event Introductions and Acknowledgements – Moderator Introduction\n\n09:10 AM – 10:40 AM PT: Panel Discussion\n\n10:40 AM – 10:45 AM PT: Raffle\n\n10:45 AM – 10:50 AM PT: Vote of Thanks \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Prakash Sangam (Moderator)Founder/Principal Tantra Analyst and WCA BoD\n \n \n \n Prakash has more than 20 years of global experience in engineering\, marketing and business development of cutting-edge wireless technologies and products\, including 5G\, 4G\, IoT\, Wi-Fi\, CV2X\, and cloud/edge services. SUMMARY:The Bay Area Mesh for Emergency Communication
DESCRIPTION:Immediately following major disasters caused by storms\, wildfires\, and earthquakes\, amateur radio is often the only available local electronics communications system.  Historically\, trained Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) operators have used portable\, mobile\, and handheld two-way radios\, supported by radio repeaters\, to communicate and relay emergency messages using voice.  The primary activity of South County ARES (SCARES) is training emergency communicators to be efficient and effective in their support of public agencies during crisis situations.  In recent years\, ARES organizations have wanted to supplement their voice communications with digital communications to enable passing of text and VOIP messages\, images\, and video.  The Bay Area Mesh (BAM) program is now implementing such a capability covering the entire Bay Area.  It can be thought of as an emergency wireless Internet that uses commercial Wi-Fi devices modified to operate in bands authorized for Amateur Radio use outside of the normal Wi-Fi bands.  This presentation will describe SCARES participation in the BAM program. and will demonstrate the BAM system in operation.  It will also describe how others can participate in BAM deployment\, including encouragement to do so.

SUMMARY:The Largest Meeting Ground to Accelerate U.S. Broadband Broadband Nation Expo
DESCRIPTION:Gaylord Convention Center\, Washington D.C. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScreenshot\n\n\n\n\n\nConnecting Rural ISPs and Government: The Role of Broadband Nation Expo\n\n\n\nWith the funding secured\, the BEAD program has entered its bidding phase. State broadband offices are now asking pre-qualification questions of internet service providers (ISPs) and aiming for strong engagement. Large operators are expected to participate\, but the challenge is ensuring that rural ISPs stay competitive. States leading the charge have refined their pre-qualification processes\, and questions remain about when technologies like fixed wireless and satellite are appropriate compared to fiber. Moreover\, collaboration between industry and government will be crucial for building the workforce necessary for these broadband expansions. \n\n\n\nThe Broadband Nation Expo (formerly the U.S. Broadband Summit) aims to bridge this gap. The event brings together over 1\,000 industry and government leaders to discuss how to close the digital divide and bring internet to every home in America. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow BEAD Funding is Changing the Game for ISPs\n\n\n\nAt the heart of the BEAD program is the pre-qualification process that ensures broadband deployment is effective and inclusive. Many states have adopted best practices to streamline ISP participation\, with a focus on encouraging rural engagement alongside large operators. To make these efforts successful\, rural ISPs must not be left behind\, and collaboration between stakeholders is crucial. \n\n\n\nFiber\, Fixed Wireless\, or Satellite: What’s Best?\n\n\n\nWhile fiber remains the gold standard for broadband\, fixed wireless and satellite technologies have their roles. Particularly in hard-to-reach or rural areas\, states must decide when it’s appropriate to allocate funding to non-fiber solutions. By attending Broadband Nation Expo\, participants can gain a deeper understanding of these decisions\, and how they impact different regions of the country. \n\n\n\nBuilding the Workforce: A Shared Responsibility\n\n\n\nA robust broadband workforce is necessary to meet BEAD’s ambitious goals. This involves industry and government collaboration to ensure the workforce is trained and prepared. At Broadband Nation Expo\, government and private leaders will share strategies for building this essential workforce. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the discussion at Broadband Nation Expo as we work to bridge the digital divide and ensure every American has access to reliable internet.
