iPhone 18 Pro Could Get Full 5G Satellite Internet
Apple may be preparing to bring full 5G satellite internet to the iPhone 18 Pro, according to a new report. This move could finally solve the problem of dropped signals in rural or remote areas. Unlike the current Emergency SOS feature—which only supports limited text messaging—this upgrade would enable full internet access with no need for cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
The Information reports that Apple is working closely with SpaceX, the company behind Starlink. Interestingly, SpaceX recently updated its network to support the same radio spectrum used in current iPhones. This technical alignment may clear the way for direct iPhone-to-satellite connectivity.
Apple and SpaceX: A Long-Term Vision in Motion
While Starlink currently requires a hardware kit and satellite dish, Apple appears to be aiming for built-in support directly in the iPhone. If successful, this would be a major engineering breakthrough, making satellite internet truly mobile.
The report highlights that Apple and SpaceX have been in talks for years. Elon Musk even hinted back in 2022 that Apple was exploring ways to optimize hardware and software for satellite signals, not just mimic cell towers.
There’s still no confirmed launch date, but if Apple manages to roll this out with the iPhone 18 Pro, it would be the first smartphone with true 5G satellite internet. The big question remains: will it be included by default or offered as a premium feature?
As for costs, Starlink’s unlimited plans currently range from $80 to $120 per month, while a more limited roaming plan is priced at $50. If Apple and SpaceX manage to simplify this, mobile satellite internet could become much more accessible in the near future.
